From 2023 entry onwards, we have introduced a bespoke bursary which awards estranged students (with a household income below £35,000) up to £2,000 per academic year. Estranged students may also be eligible for our Core Bursary which is a further £1000 per year..


The university offers 365-accommodation and a waiver of the upfront deposit for university-owned accommodation. Estranged students also have access to our new guarantor scheme, if they choose to move into private accommodation.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

A named contact in our Support and Wellbeing Team who can provide advice on a wide range of wellbeing issues. This may include working alongside personal tutors or other specialist services. Students can also access our year-round counselling services and can register with Togetherall, a free digital mental health service.


Bespoke visit days for estranged students to visit the university in Years 10-13. A dedicated member of staff in the widening participation team who will be a point of contact pre-entry. An invite to our ‘Kick Start’ induction programme, prior to starting university, and the option of a peer mentor to support transition into university. A specific estranged webpage with useful links and information.
