UNIVERSITY OF HULL

Finance

Through the development of our Humber Grant we have introduced a £1000 bursary for each year of study to help estranged students, and alleviate some of that financial stress. This is in addition to our hardship support and summer funds which are open for all students to apply.

Accommodation

365-day a year accommodation is available if you want it, and Student Support Services can help you secure the student accommodation of your choice.

Mental Health

Over the next two years we will be developing a new mental health strategy which will focus on all aspects of emotional wellbeing and mental health support provided both internally and in partnership with external agencies such as NHS Depression and Anxiety Service and NHS Humber Recovery College. The support we offer to Estranged students will feature within this strategy.

Outreach

A nominated Student Engagement Officer, trained to have specific awareness of the support needs for Carers, Care Leavers and Estranged Students, has specific responsibility for identifying resources and is currently developing an E-Guide to promote the support that is available to students within this group. They are also making relevant contacts within the local authorities and agencies and building relationships. We offer Estranged students opportunities to attend both our Year 10 and Year 12 Summer Schools, which aim to raise knowledge and awareness of higher education and the opportunities it can provide. We also offer one to one campus tours with our student ambassadors, and local students can also access our on campus visits through their school or college. We can also provide information, advice and guidance on applying to higher education and studying at the University of Hull.
