UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE

Finance

Estranged students are a priority group for discretional funding. Advice and support are given to estranged students on how to apply for funding, and associated benefits available, by the Student Funding unit within the University. One to one budgeting support can also be given. Estranged students have access to a wellbeing fund which provides grants for specific wellbeing related activities or equipment and are disbursed by the named support contact. This fund is separate from any discretional funds.

Accommodation

We provide 365 day access to University managed accommodation including vacation periods. No guarantor is required for University managed accommodation and financial support for funding rent prepayment to secure University managed accommodation may be given if required. Support and advice regarding private accommodation is available via our Student Association (DUSA).

Mental Health

A wide range of support is available to support wellbeing emotional, physical, and mental of students. This includes University Counselling Services, University Health Service (Mental health nursing service) and Disability Services (including mental health mentoring). There is a dedicated named support contact within the Student Support team. Estranged students are invited to peer support meetings with other estranged students. A peer mentor is offered to all new estranged students through the wider University welcoming, buddying and mentoring scheme - Peer Connections. Students may be referred to our Institute of Sport and Exercise for supported gym sessions through our Healthy Minds – Healthy Bodies scheme.

Outreach

We encourage any estranged applicants to make us aware of their circumstances via the UCAS form or during the application process via a dedicated email address. They are eligible for a contextual offer and individual support is offered with their application. Estranged applicants may also be invited to participate in our Access summer schools. We also provide opportunities to disclose their situation at any point in their university journey. Information is always available online and named contacts offer application support and dedicated ongoing support throughout their university studies.
