Gathering Data and Measuring Outcomes: 18 June 2019


Measuring and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of interventions for estranged students is difficult without any national data sets available.

But there are ways to gather and use quantitative data and qualitative measures to identify what makes a successful intervention, and to design strategies to measure their impact and outcomes. We want to explore with you how to develop an evaluation strategy for a target cohort such as estranged students using datasets available (such as HEBBS) and those coming on stream (such as UCAS), as well as appropriate research methods.

We will discuss what are realistic outcomes that institutions can evaluate for estranged students and with the help of researchers and best practice examples from HEIs investigate how to go about gathering the data and information needed. We will also consider how to work sensitively and appropriately with data under GDPR regulations.

The conference is supported by the Office for Students with a focus on English WP policy. But we hope the day will help colleagues from all nations with their monitoring and evaluation strategy for estranged students.
