UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON

Finance
We offer a Bursary of £1000 each year to all full time undergraduate students starting a course after 2018 who are assessed by Student Finance England as estranged. All estranged students are offered a bespoke budgeting session and we tailor the assessment of our Student Support Fund to make adjustments for those with no family contact. Estranged students are a priority group for our Summer Fund and Graduate Support Package.

Accommodation
All estranged students are offered a guaranteed place in university managed accommodation for the duration of their course. Student and Staff Residential Advisers based in Halls have an understanding of the needs of estranged students.

Mental Health
Estranged students are a priority group for our Momentum mentoring programme and will be matched to a professional who will best meet their needs. They are also offered a place in our Wellbeing workshops and can apply for funding to attend external events organised by Stand Alone.

Outreach
We have included estranged students within our Access Agreement and Access and Participation Plans since 2018. Our Widening Participation team and Student Engagement leads signpost estranged students to our named contacts through early intervention.
