Designated staff provide information, advice and support. Including liaison with Student Finance England and information about additional funding from the University. Enhanced University of Sheffield bursaries and scholarships for undergraduate students who are estranged, including £4500 per year (f/t) £2250 per year (p/t). Also further opportunities for financial support for post graduate study (information for academic year 2016/17).


Designated staff to provide bespoke support and help to secure 365 day accommodation. 24/7 support by the Residence Life Team for estranged students living in university accommodation.

Mental Health

Named contacts in the Student Transitions and Support Team within Student Services Department, provide joined up, holistic support on an individual basis. Services also include: The University Health Service, staffed by professionals with experience in supporting mental health; the University Counselling Service, providing a range of psychological support, including triage assessment, self-help, mindfulness, workshops, group therapy and individual counselling. The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service, Student Mentors and the Students Advice Centre in the Students Union all provide further support.


Bespoke outreach work, providing information and support for young people (and their teachers) in schools and colleges and at the point of application. Consideration of extenuated circumstances when making contextualized offers through the admissions process. Links with local charities, foyer and homeless shelters. Raise awareness of estranged students and the challenges they face with university staff, school and college key contacts and Local Authorities. Further support via Careers Service.
