LEEDS CITY COLLEGE UNIVERSITY CENTRE

Finance

Students estranged from their family starting full time higher education will receive a bursary (up to £1000). We will support the cost of interview travel and /or on-course materials (up to 50%) and graduation (up to 50% of cost for gown hire and photographs). The college will advise students on funding and other benefits available to them and will support them in applying for them.

Accommodation

We will work to develop links with accommodation providers who will be flexible about the need for a guarantor.

Mental Health

Designated support from the HE Counselling and Mental Health Officer and/or student Counsellor. Nominated support from the HE Welfare and Student Engagement Officer and/or a Named Contact from within the Safeguarding Team. Estranged HE students will also be able to access buddying or mentoring schemes. Staff training to ensure they can support and advise estranged students.

Outreach

We will communicate the support available to estranged students via our work with schools, colleges, community organisations, etc, and via our website. LUC also recognises estrangement in its contextual admissions and will provide 1:1 application support.
