Specialist advice, caseworking and advocacy to help with applying for Student Finance as an independent student. Budgeting advice. Help accessing hardship funds including financial assistance over the summer vacation. A QMUL Bursary.
Accommodation
Consideration is being given to prioritising estranged students for a place in university residences in their first year, and during the summer vacation. Help is given with accessing emergency accommodation if a student needs to leave home quickly.
Mental Health
Estranged students have a named contact within the university who they can ask about anything, which is containing and reduces anxiety about needing to find out who to contact for different queries. A web page on our Counselling webpages explaining what challenges estrangement can present and what support is available, including one to one Counselling. Specialist Mental Health Co-ordinators.
Outreach
In funding talks at university open days, we explain the support we offer to estranged students. We plan to create a handout for open days about available support. A section for estranged students will be added to our prospectus.
