Finance
The University’s Student Support Fund prioritises care leavers and estranged students. Emergency support is available through this fund.
Accommodation
Estranged students are a priority for University accommodation. We offer year-round accommodation for our students and provide emergency accommodation. We have Resident Assistants in all our halls whose training includes information about the challenges estranged students may face, and the support available for them.
Mental Health
Our Wellbeing Service currently includes sessions on Coping Strategies and Difficult Conversations. We set up a peer-to-peer support group which receives support from the University for organising events such as a meal at Christmas. We are also working in close partnership with our Students’ Union to engage and support estranged students.
Outreach
We support estranged students on a one-to-one basis in our outreach work, and we are extending this support to include a dedicated contact for estranged students together with information, case studies and Q&As on our website. Programme taster days as well as confidence-building sessions are in the pipeline. Our Students’ Union provides a pre-arrival buddy scheme to help estranged students settle into university life.
