HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY

Finance
Estranged students are prioritised for the Heriot-Watt Access Bursary which provides a £1000 grant per year of study and are also eligible for travel assistance of around £400 per year for the duration of their studies. Estranged students in financial hardship can apply through our discretionary fund and access emergency funding from our Student Union Advice Hub, as well as access one-to -one financial advice via our daily drop in service.

Accommodation
Estranged students can request year-round University accommodation for the duration of their studies. Safeguarding Services and support is available 24/7 on campus and students have access to our SafeZone app. We have an on campus Residence Life team who provide activities and support to help ensure students feel welcome and settled during their time with us. If students decide to live off-campus they are eligible to apply to the University’s rental guarantee scheme.

Mental Health
Student Wellbeing Services provide estranged students with a dedicated point of contact and access to a daily wellbeing drop in for one to one advice. We offer Counselling, Coaching, support to students with a disability and a range of activities and other support services which promote positive wellbeing and help students be their best, and get the most from their University experience.

Outreach
If an estranged individual makes us aware of their circumstances via UCAS, or by contacting us directly, they are eligible for a contextual offer and one-to-one support with their application. We also provide the opportunity for students to declare their circumstances at enrolment, or at any point throughout their studies. Estranged students have a dedicated point of contact to support them throughout their entire University journey.
