UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

Finance

Estranged students are awarded our Access Scholarship of £5000 (from 2020 entry). Current students in financial hardship are eligible for support through our Discretionary Fund. Students can access quality budgeting and debt advice through the Edinburgh University Students’ Association Advice Place.

Accommodation

Estranged students are guaranteed 365-day accommodation in our student residences. Students staying in our accommodation do not require a guarantor and do not pay a deposit. The University is also a Unite Foundation partner, which allows us to offer a number of fully-funded places in student accommodation for our estranged students. For those students living in private rented accommodation, we operate a Rent Guarantor Scheme.

Mental Health

We offer a range of support with mental health and wellbeing, including digital and online support; Wellbeing workshops; our Student Counselling Service and our Mental Health Mentor programme.

Outreach

We have a named contact for estranged students, who provides tailored advice and support for estranged students. Estranged students are prioritised on Widening Access programmes. For 2020 entry, a question will be added to registration forms to allow students to self-identify as estranged.
